Shame
It seems to come when we do what we know to be wrong, when the present pleasure is valued over the future good, when impulse not betterment wins our actions. When this is done shame floods us.
It is almost as if we know what is right, it is almost as if we really know what it is we must do, as if we have a voice in us that cries out, and then lashes out when ignored. It is almost as if we have an inner sublimity.
So if this is the case, if something greater than our present selves lives within us, we must let it out! We must let it take hold of the ship, let it direct and guide us.
This must be the case, for else this inner sublimity will haunt us with feelings of guilt and shame, until you come to resent yourself. This is no way to live, in constant detest of one's self.
This state of shame is avoidable. All we must do is listen and then follow, to wherever it may lead us, that voice that calls out, that knows what is right, that knows the present sacrifice required for the lasting good.
Stay steadfast in your loyalty to this voice, let it grow until it becomes your own, let it grow until it devours you, let yourself come to embody it.
Let out this voice so that you may come to forget shame and learn of your own sublimity.
