Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None is a work of philosophical fiction consisting of discourses by Zarathustra, the protagonist who first appeared in Nietzsche's earlier book, The Gay Science. The book explores ideas such as the Übermensch, the death of God, the will to power, and eternal recurrence. Nietzsche’s central idea for the book occurred to him through an incident at Lake Silvaplana. Using Zarathustra as a protagonist, Nietzsche explores the subjects of good and evil, truthfulness, and morality. Nietzsche has described his book as an “explosion of forces that have been accumulating for decades”.
