The Great Gatsby is a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald set in the "Jazz Age" of the 1920s on Long Island, New York. Narrated by Nick Carraway, it follows the story of millionaire Jay Gatsby's obsession with winning back his former lover, Daisy Buchanan. The novel explores themes of social class, wealth and poverty, and the corruption of the American Dream. It has become a literary classic, studied in American high schools and universities, and adapted into numerous films and stage productions. Some criticisms have been leveled against Fitzgerald for allegedly perpetuating antisemitic stereotypes in the novel. Despite this, The Great Gatsby remains a significant work of American literature.
