    ~ 1895 ~
The Time Machine by H.G. Wells is a science fiction novella published in 1895. The concept of time travel in the book is said to have popularized time travel in literature. The story follows a scientist who travels to A.D. 802,701 where humans have diverged into two species: the Eloi and the Morlocks. The Eloi live carefree lives in a ruined, utopian city, while the Morlocks are savage, childlike creatures that live underground and only come out at night. The novella has been adapted into films and television shows and is seen as a commentary on the inequality and class divisions of Wells' era.
