    ~ 1532 ~
Florentine Histories is a historical account by Italian Renaissance political philosopher and writer Niccolò Machiavelli, first published posthumously in 1532. The work was produced after Machiavelli fell out of favour with the Medici family and his relationship with them began to passively mend. He was commissioned to write a history of Florence by Pope Clement VII, in order to recover the city's charge of historic officiality. The work is written in eight books and provides a general picture of the history of Europe up until the beginning of the 15th century, with the final four books focusing on the fight for power that ended with the rise of the Medici. Scipione Ammirato criticized Machiavelli's writing for being manipulative and untruthful.
