    ~ 1748 ~
An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, a book by David Hume, was first published in 1748 and is a revision of his earlier work, A Treatise of Human Nature. Hume uses the Enquiry to explain key aspects of his philosophy like his argument for the role of habit in a theory of knowledge. His views on personal identity are not present in this work, however, his beliefs have been widely regarded as a seminal influence on modern philosophical literature influencing Immanuel Kant, who regarded it as the book that 'woke him from his self-described "dogmatic slumber".' The book is considered a classic in philosophical literature.
